NFF makes a decision about Eric Chelle’s dismissal as Super Eagles coach after a dead point against South Africa

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has taken a position on the future of the Nigeria Eric Chelle national team coach after the 1-1 draw against South Africa in the World Cup qualifiers, reports Owngoalnigeria.com.

Super Eagles needed to beat South Africa to reduce its advantage at the top, but they cannot do from behind to attract 1-1 after being left behind through a goal of the William Troost-Ekong team captain.

Calvin Bassey drew the Nigeria level with a powerful header in the box. The result meant that Nigeria still sits six points from the leaders, which makes the world cup qualification difficult with two games to play.

Chelle, who took over February with a mandate to rescue what was left of the campaign with only three of a possible 12, picked up eight points of the 12 available and, above all, he has not yet lost a game.

“His future (Chelle) will not be decided by Super Eagles to qualify for the World Cup or not. We all know the situation we were before being named. Until now he has done better than the two previous coaches who began the campaign in José Pesiro and Finidi George, respectively,” a member of the NFF Technical Committee told Owngoalnigeria.com in an exclusive conversation.

“The first part of its contract ends in October, which is at the end of the qualifiers. We (NFF) will analyze the way we reach the World Cup or not before making a decision. But the qualification for the World Cup will trigger an automatic extension of its contract for two more years.”
