Police arrested three kidnappers at Akwa Ibom

Police operations in Akwa Ibom have arrested three suspects in connection with the alleged kidnapping in Nung Oku, the region of the Ibesikpo Asutan regional government in the state.

Spokesman for the State Police Command, Timfon John, revealed this in a statement on Tuesday at UYO.

He said the suspects were arrested on September 12, following information about the alleged human trafficking syndicate operating in the area.

He added that the police acted quickly on intelligence and arrested the suspects, while others fled in various places.

John said: “The victim, whose identity was detained, was the native of the IgBanki village in Orhionmwon Lga from Edo.

“He was allegedly sent by his brother -in -law, a leader of human trafficking ring allegedly based in Burkina Faso.

“The victim was ordered to transport several girls from Uyo to Burkina Faso.

“After his arrival at Uyo, the girls directed him to a hotel (a secret name) in Nung Oku, Ibesikpo Asutan, on a mini bus driven by one of the suspects.

“Upon arrival at the hotel, girls and other accomplices reportedly locked victims in a room and demanded a ransom of N4 million.

“Unable to pay a full amount, he was the target of severe beating. The attackers confiscated his ATM card, forced him to express his PIN, and withdraw N111,000 from his account.

“They then forced him to contact his brother -in -law at Burkina Faso to send the remaining money.”
