APC said the abolition of subsidies had national support

National Chairperson of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has defended the economic reform of the Tinubu Bola President, by saying the elimination of fuel subsidies and other policy changes is widely supported and remains important for Nigerian financial stability.

Speaking at Sunrise Daily, a television channel program, on Wednesday, Yilwatda stated that reforms could not be avoided and had begun to give results.

“All Nigerians accepted that we needed the change at the time. There were no political parties, no commentators, almost everyone throughout the country said that we had to delete subsidies. Almost all candidates agreed that parallel forex was not for the benefit of Nigeria. Almost all of them needed in the reforms needed in the country.

The Chairperson of the APC noted that the policy had increased government revenue and increased service provision throughout the federation.

“Only last month, the federal government, state, and local shared ₦ 2 trillion, compared to almost ₦ 500 billion before,” he said.

He added that countries that had struggled to pay salaries in 2023 were now financially stable.

“If you remember, in 2023, around 24 states of the federation actually borrowed, and some of them could not pay salaries. Today, no state failed to pay salaries. All state governors and local governments have been able to pay UP -Mound salaries,” Yilwatda explained.

He stressed that Tinubu’s reform not only strengthened the federal government but also provided state resources and local councils to fulfill their obligations and increase the delivery of services nationally.
