PDP handles APC Chair, Yilwatda, more than ‘absurd,’ calling to reclaim the state

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the State of the highlands has rejected claims by the National Congress of all Progressive Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, that APC will reclaim the Governor of the State in the 2027 General Election.

Yilwatda, who was elected as the National Chairperson of the APC at the Party National Executive Committee meeting on July 24, 2025, had stated that during the radio program in JOS on Tuesday that the party was convinced to return to the state, after losing to PDP in 2023. He was a candidate for the APC governor in the election, where he was defeated by the government in 2023.

In the response issued on Wednesday, the highlands, through his publicity secretary, Jonathan Amande, described Yilwatda’s statement as “unreasonable,” insisting that producing the next governor would require more than “ambition or rhetoric.”

“PDP has shown resilience, capacity, and commitment to serve people,” the statement said. “With a solid structure throughout the state environment and Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang governance records that are proven, PDP remains the most resilient platform to build the future of Plateau.”

The party emphasizes its trust in maintaining power in 2027, noting that they will continue to involve citizens constructively and uphold the principles of justice, accountability, and service provision.

“When we look forward to the 2027 general election, our focus remains on strengthening unity, consolidating democratic benefits, and working with the people to ensure greater progress and development in the state,” said Amande.

PDP urged its members and supporters to remain firm, emphasizing that they were fully prepared to secure the mandate of the highlands in the next poll.
