First Lady Olrelmi Tinubu has announced that over n20.45 billion were collected to complete the National Library in Abuja.
First Lady revealed that the funds were generated through its Olrelmi @65 educational fund, a Legacy birthday project.
Speaking at a lunch with the correspondents of the State House in Abuja Tuesday to mark his 65th birthday, Tinubu said that he deliberately chosen the library project as a birthday gift for the nation instead of cakes, gifts or newspaper advertising.
He said: “It was raised n20.456.188.924.93.
“I want to free the air on some people who say that he has a political undertone. What’s wrong with doing well?”
First Lady explained that her decision was modeled by its 12 years in the Senate’s Education Commission and its modest education.

“From a humble background, the library played a role in my life. That’s why I thought it was a worthy cause,” he said, committing himself to supporting his commitment to education and projects for the benefit of future generations.
His announcement follows the observations of the former governor of the State of Anambra Peter Obi, who praised his recognition of the importance of education, but criticized the nation for having relying on birthday donations to complete a key national institution.
