School principals suspended for the student’s death

The State Government of Ogun has indefinitely suspended the two principals of the Iugun High School of Elega, Abokuta, in the midst of the death of a student suspected of being connected to the school.
The commissioner for education, science and technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, revealed it on Tuesday in a press conference, while reacting to a viral video, in which the students were seen vandalizing school properties.
Arigbabu explained that the suspension of the principals, Mrs. Olukoga Alaba and Mrs. Olabisi Ladipo, who respectively represent the junior and senior schools, was due to their involvement in the accident.
According to him, the principal of the Junior School was involved in the collection of illegal taxes, which led to a protest by the students.
“In the consequent protest, the security agents were invited to calm the nerves, who subsequently led to a fray.
“We have all become aware of the unfortunate accident that took place at the Iugun High School (Junior), Elega. They are in front of you tonight to confirm that, unfortunately, the accident occurred in the school.
“Firstly, leave me, on behalf of the state government, to express our deepest condolences to the parents and the family of the deceased. We feel their pain and our prayers are with them in this difficult moment.
“However, our preliminary investigations revealed a very disturbing turning point; the young man who lost his life could not be confirmed as a student in good faith of the school.
“It was identified with three different names, Babalola Ayomide, Salako Jimoh and Afolabi Babalola.
“However, none of these names appears in our official state education database, the Ogsera platform, which authentic all school enrollments authentic. This indicates the probability of an illegal enrollment,” he said.
According to the commissioner, an investigation confirmed that the Dean of the Iugun Junior High School was involved in the collection of illegal taxes by the students.
In response to the results, the government has decided to suspend both the junior and senior principals of the Iugun High School.
He added that an in -depth investigation would be conducted to obtain the immediate and remote causes of the unfortunate accident.
He revealed that to remain informed about school activities, the Government, through the Commission of Teaching Services, has set up an informer program to report illegality, illegality and other bad conduct.
He assured that the state government remains dedicated to guaranteeing free education for all school -age children, regardless of their position, gender, economic state, religion or political affiliation.
