FG broker truce between Pengassan, the refinery of crane while the fire workers get a guarantee of redistribution

After two days of intense negotiations, Tuesday the Federal Government mediated the peace between oil and natural gas senior staff association of Nigeria (Pengassan) and the management of the oil refinery with the controversial sack of over 800 workers.

The industrial controversy, which threatened to paralyze the operations in the largest African refinery, followed the Pengassan directive to members to stop the supply of gas and collect the services in protest against what described as the “illegal resolution of the work” of its members by the Dangote Group.

But the company defended the exercise of disengagement, insisting on the fact that it was part of an ongoing organizational renovation.

The federal government quickly disturbed itself in the crisis, convening a conciliation meeting led by the Minister of Labor and Remarkation, Muhammad Dingyadi.

The platform collected that the high -level session had presented the presence for national security, finance ministers and oil, NNPC Ltd, Nuprc, Nmdpra, the Department of State Services (DSS), as well as representatives of the Congress of the Union Trade (TUC) and Pengassan.

It was also collected that during the meeting, Dingyadi reiterated the government’s commitment to protect the rights of workers, underlining that “the right to trade union employees is guaranteed by the Nigerian law and no employer has the authority to undermine”.

After hours of resolutions, a respite was reached. Both parties signed a joint press release that provided that the affected workers would be redistributed to other branches of the dangoes without loss of remuneration or rights. He also guaranteed that no employee should have faced the victimization on the dispute.

In return, Pengassan has undertaken to start the process of emptying and restoring industrial peace to refinery.

“The resolution states respect for the rights of workers, the redistribution of the staff concerned and the restoration of harmony between the two parties,” said the press release.
