Judge Emeka Nwite from the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Thursday postponed the alleged trial of defamation from Sahara Journalist Publisher, Omoyle Sowore, until November 20 to hear in all delayed applications.
Police Inspector General, Kayode Egbetokun, charged reporters Sowore and Sahara for a series of reports published in the newspaper about alleged promotional scandals in the police and activist participation in protests by police retirees demanding pension reform.
At the hearing that was continued on Thursday, legal advisor, Mr. EA Inegbenoise, tells the court that the problem is registered for the indictment.
He, however, said the defendants had submitted an initial objection to the accusation.
Inegbenoise told the court that he could only serve his answers to the defendants in the court on the trial day, and that they would need time to respond.
Temokun’s Tope Tope, which appeared for Sowore and Sahara Reporters Limited, confirmed that he had received a prosecution reward for the initial objection and that they needed time to reply.
He also told the court that both parties had agreed to return on November 20 to debate all delayed applications.
