Gov Yahaya revealed how Gombe found 440 ghost health workers

The Governor of the State Gombe, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has revealed that his government has found and eliminated around 440 ghost workers from the state of the state health sector, a discovery that has saved the government more than ₦ 4.5 billion.

The Governor made a disclosure on Thursday when speaking to the participants at the Gombe State Health Summit held at the Gombe International Conference Center.

He explained that the fraud was excavated after the introduction of the biometric attendance system in all health facilities, the policies designed to curb absent and block financial leakage in the system.

“To eliminate ghost workers and reduce absence, we introduce a biometric presence system, exposed around 440 ghost workers and saving more than 4.5 billion,” said Yahaya.

According to the Governor, the action was part of a broader reform strategy to re -position the state health sector, which he said was sad when he served in 2019.

The governor noted that outside of reducing waste, reforms were intended to ensure transparency, efficiency, and increase health care services to citizens in all states.
