The hopes of Nigeria to qualify for the T20 ICC World Cup of 2026 ended with disappointment while the Greens Yellow closed in sixth place to African qualifications following a defeat of 66 shots against Uganda in Saturday’s fifth playoff.
Uganda set a discouraging total of 196 by 7, led by a unbeaten 66 by Riazat Ali Shah, whose inning compounds anchored their performance in the beaten.
In response, Nigeria could not only collect 130 for 7 in 20 over, despite a specific effort by Captain Sylvester Okpe, who marked the maximum with 26 races and also collected two WICKETs.
Throughout the tournament, Nigeria managed two wins – against Malawi and Botswana – but immediately defeated in Namibia, Kenya and Uganda. The team showed glimpses of potential, but fought by consistency against a stronger opposition.
The Zimbabwe and Namibia have ensured the two qualifying points of Africa for the 2026 T20 World Cup and will join South Africa as representatives of the continent to the global show.
