My resignation as minister is not an admission of guilt – Uche Nnaji

Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, on Wednesday said his resignation from the Federal Executive Council (FEC) was not an admission of guilt but a personal choice.

Nnaji was appointed minister by President Bola Tinubu in August 2023, but resigned on Tuesday over alleged falsification of certificates.

In a statement in Abuja, the former minister noted that over the past week, a planned and sustained campaign of lies, politically motivated and malicious attacks was waged against him across print, electronic and social media platforms.

He said unfounded accusations and media distortions not only caused personal stress, but also distracted him from work.

Nnaji pointed out that he has spent five decades building a reputation based on hard work, honor and service to humanity.

The former minister said he could not in good conscience allow such distortions to overshadow the noble aims of the current government.

“Therefore, my decision to resign is a personal choice, not an admission of guilt. This is a principled decision to respect the sanctity of the legal process and maintain the integrity of the ongoing judicial process in court,” he said.

Nnaji expressed optimism that ultimately justice would vindicate the just.
