The Benue State House of Assembly has approved Governor Hyacinth Alia’s request to access a N100 billion loan from the United Bank for Africa (UBA) for infrastructure development.
The House of Representatives approved the request at an emergency plenary session on Friday in Makurdi.
Speaker of the House of Representatives Hyacinth Emberga read a letter dated October 9 signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mrs Deborah Aber, on behalf of the Benue Executive Council.
The letter read: “To discount the pledge instrument received from the Federal Government in respect of Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG).
“The purpose of this loan is to finance infrastructure development projects across the state, including the renovation and equipping of 23 public hospitals.

“This loan is also for the renovation and construction of specialized science schools across the state as well as the completion of ongoing road, bridge, drainage and power projects, including Makurdi, Gboko and Otukpo internal roads.
“Another objective of this loan facility is to establish skill acquisition centers and build and equip smart schools in every federal constituency.
“Also for the renovation and equipping of secondary and tertiary institutions and the provision of infrastructure in designated industrial areas, including agricultural processing projects.”
In his remarks, Emberga said that because members did not oppose the request, the request was approved.
