Family members of a kidnapped member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), identified as Abba, say they fear he was killed by his captors despite paying a $10 million ransom for his release.
The family revealed that communication with the kidnappers broke down shortly after the ransom was delivered, raising strong fears that the body member may have been killed.
According to family sources, the kidnappers initially demanded additional items, including motorcycles, even after receiving the $10 million ransom payment.
However, the family said they refused to comply with the new demands after the kidnappers suddenly cut off all communications.
“Since receiving the $10 million ransom payment, Abba’s kidnappers have completely stopped communicating with the family,” a source said.
In view of the developments, the family said they had made arrangements to hold funeral prayers for the corps member in absentia, in line with Islamic rites.
“Abba’s family is preparing to observe his Janaza (Gha’ib) prayer on Friday, March 6, in accordance with Islamic rules,” the source added.

The family also expressed gratitude to the people and groups who supported them during the ordeal.
“Abba’s family would like to express deep appreciation to all those who have offered support, prayers, donations and kind words during this difficult time. May the Almighty reward your generosity abundantly,” the family said.
They added that the family continues to pray that if the corps member is still alive, he will regain his freedom soon.
“If he is dead, may Allah forgive his shortcomings, accept his good deeds and grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus,” a family member said.
