The Pan African Scrabble Association (PANASA) has applauded Liberia as the country prepares to host the National Scrabble Championship 2026a major event expected to bring together the best Scrabble players in the country.
The championship will take place from March 14 to March 16, 2026in K-Plaza in Buchanan, Grand Bassa Countywhere competitors will fight for national glory and a share of the Prize fund of LRD 563,000.
According to organizers, the tournament aims to further strengthen the development of Scrabble in Liberia while showcasing the growing popularity of the mental sport across the country.
The event is proudly sponsored by Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, whose support is seen as a significant contribution to the advancement of Scrabble and youth-focused educational initiatives in Liberia.
In addition to the competition, the championship will promote the “Scrabble to Buchanan Schools” initiative. The program is designed to introduce Scrabble to Buchanan students, encouraging vocabulary development, critical thinking and strategic skills through play.
PANASA noted that national competitions like the Liberian championship are vital to the continued growth of Scrabble in Africa. The association expressed confidence that the 2026 edition will help broaden grassroots participation while strengthening Liberia’s presence in the continental Scrabble community.
