The APC inaugurated the committee ahead of the national convention

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has kicked off preparations for its 2026 National Convention by inaugurating its Accommodation and Transport Committee in Abuja on Tuesday.

Deputy chairman of the committee and Minister of Public Works, David Umahi, while inaugurating the committee on Tuesday, said: “The composition of this committee reflects the importance the party attaches to the responsibilities entrusted to us. With governors, ministers, senators and senior leaders of the party represented here, it is clear that the party expects this committee to play a vital role in the successful holding of the convention.

“As we all know, the success of every major national meeting such as our national convention depends not only on the ongoing political process, but also the efficiency of the logistical arrangements that support it,” he said.

Umahi explained that delegations must arrive safely and on time, while party leaders and special guests must be properly accommodated. Transportation between airports, hotels and convention venues, he continued, must also be well coordinated.

“When these logistics run smoothly, the convention will run smoothly. If these logistics fail, even the most carefully planned event can be disrupted,” he said.

He said the committee’s responsibilities include coordinating hotel accommodation for party leaders, delegates and special guests; arrange transportation for VIPs and attendees; managing airport reception and transfers; and ensuring efficient movement between hotels and convention venues.

“Our duties include coordinating hotel accommodation for party leaders, delegates and special guests, arranging transportation for VIPs and delegates, arranging reception and airport transfers as well as ensuring efficient movement between the hotel and the convention venue,” he said.

Umahi noted that the scale of the convention and the expected number of participants from across the federation required careful planning, strong coordination and timely implementation.

He added that the inaugural meeting was held to enable the committee to begin work, review its terms of reference, examine logistical plans and agree on next implementation steps.

“I want to emphasize that time is of the essence. Early planning will allow us to secure hotel capacity, mobilize transportation resources and establish the operational coordination systems necessary for the convention,” he said.

Umahi, whose speech was read by the Deputy Secretary of the Committee, Aderemi Oseni, expressed confidence that the members of the committee would work together to ensure that the 2026 national convention was held in an organized and efficient manner.

Housing and Urban Development Minister Ahmed Musa Dangiwa serves as secretary of the committee, which also includes former federal lawmakers, presidential aides and other senior party members.

Also speaking, Abba Kabir Yusuf, governor of Kano State and co-chairman of the committee, said he had made his official residence available as a headquarters for convention planning activities.

Represented by one of the committee members, Muhammad Jamu Yusuf, the governor said the residence had been the meeting place for the main committee of the convention since planning for the event began.

“Since planning for this convention began, the Governor of Kano State offered his official residence, which is now the official headquarters of the Convention Committee.

“And since that responsibility was given to him, we have signed papers on how we can hold the convention smoothly so that people can be accommodated and transported to various places as needed,” he said.
