Record wins for South East, South West and South South on day one of 7th National Under-17 Cricket Championship in Abuja

The seventh National Under-17 Cricket Championship continued in Abuja on Wednesday with several exciting matches in the men’s and women’s categories, as regional teams battled for early momentum in the national junior tournament organized by the Nigeria Cricket Federation.

In one of the key matches of the day, South East claimed a narrow three-wicket victory over North West in the men’s category.

North West were bowled out for 76 runs in 17.1 overs in the first innings. South East responded with 77 for 7 in 13.3 overs, successfully chasing the target to seal the victory.

In another match in the men’s category, South West defeated South East by 43 runs in a dominant display.

Batting first, South West scored 135 for 9 in 25 overs. South East struggled in their chase and were eventually bowled out for 92 in 21.2 overs, giving South West a comfortable victory.

In a subsequent match between South East and South West, South West won the toss and elected to bat.

At the time of writing, South West were 81 for 3 after 17 overs, putting themselves strongly in the competition.

In the women’s category, the South South team put in an impressive performance defeating North Central by seven wickets.

North Central were dismissed for 67 runs in 18.1 overs, while South South chased down the target with ease, finishing on 68 for 3 in just 8 overs.

The South South boys team also achieved a resounding victory over North Central.

North Central were bowled out for 38 runs in 19.5 overs, and South South successfully chased down the modest total, reaching 40 for 4 in 7.2 overs to win by six wickets.

The championship continues in Abuja with teams from all geopolitical zones of Nigeria competing for national honors and the opportunity to showcase emerging cricket talent.
