Lawmaker empowers 150 voters with buses, motorcycles…

A lawmaker, Mr. Chimezie Ikwunne, representing Awka North Constituency in the Anambra House of Assembly, has empowered 150 voters with shuttle buses, motorbikes and other business tools worth over N150 million.

Ikwunne carried out the empowerment program on Sunday in Ebenebe, Awka North local government area of ​​the state.

The items distributed included 15 shuttle buses, 35 motorcycles, 30 grinding machines, 31 hair dryers and 35 sewing machines, in addition to cash support for beneficiaries.

The MP said the gesture was aimed at improving the living standards of his constituents and promoting development in the area.

Ikwunne, who is the chairman of the House Agriculture Committee, said the initiative was also designed to provide support and relief to his constituents.

He said the beneficiaries were selected from different communities in the constituency, including youth, women, men, community leaders, artisans and traders.

“This empowerment is about restoring the dignity of rural life, engaging youth, easing the burden on women and creating a foundation for inclusive development,” he said.

Ikwunne commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for addressing the needs of Awka North residents through the construction of the Amansea-Awba Ofemili road which connects five communities in the area.

According to him, the road project has improved agricultural productivity and facilitated the transportation of people and agricultural products to markets.

He assured the citizens of his constituency that he would continue to respond to their needs and aspirations in line with his campaign promises.

“I applied for this job and I rededicate myself to listen more, serve better and work harder,” the lawmaker said.

In his remarks, Ifeatu Obi-Okoye, state president of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), commended the MP for what he described as quality representation.

“With this level of empowerment, APGA members are proud of you because this is true representation and aligns with the government’s solution,” he said.

Also, the Deputy Speaker, Anambra House of Assembly, Chukwuma Okoye, commended Ikwunne for initiating programs that directly impact the lives of his people.

Chief Lawrence Onwuzuka, community leader, thanked the legislature for prioritizing the well-being of the people and promised continued support from voters.

He urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the assets to improve their livelihoods.

Some beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the legislator for the gesture and committed to using the support to revive their businesses and improve their living conditions.

Mr Ifesinachi Onwunili of Achalla community, who received a shuttle bus, said he will use it to generate income with the aim of purchasing another bus within the next year.

Another beneficiary, Mrs Theresa Okonkwo, a trader from Ebenebe community, who received a grinding machine, said the equipment would boost her business and enable her to better support her family.
