Police foil armed robbery attack, arrest one person in Oyo

Police agents in Oyo State on Monday foiled an armed robbery attack on the Ogbomoso-Ilorin Expressway, and arrested a suspect.

Spokesman of the state police command, Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Ibadan.

He said a joint patrol team, consisting of police officers and local residents, intercepted armed robbers in Egbeda Village near Ogbomoso.

“Suspected armed robbers had blocked the highway and stopped a diesel-laden tanker, driven by one Surajudeen Sulaiman, and forcefully seized the belongings of him and his men,

A gun duel then broke out between the fleeing thugs and a Police patrol team, allowing one of the suspects, aged 32, to be arrested.

“Other gang members fled into the bushes, suffering from gunshot wounds.

“Following the incident, the Police and vigilante teams carried out intensive bush combing and hunted down the fleeing suspects,” Olayinka said.
