The Federal Government has called on technology developers, businesses and innovators to create digital services around Nigeria’s new National Digital Alphanumeric Postal Code System.
The system is designed to provide digital postal code location information across Nigeria that can be used in various online and technology-based services.
Minister for Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, said the launch of the postal code system was just the start of a wider plan to integrate it into digital services.
The government wants developers to use this system in areas such as online shopping, transportation, healthcare, agriculture and emergency services.
For example, businesses can use digital postal codes to make it easier to identify delivery locations and improve the movement of goods.
Emergency services can also use the information to more accurately identify locations when responding to incidents.
The government has provided an API for organizations wishing to connect the postcode system to their own digital platforms. API is a technology that allows different computer systems and applications to communicate with each other.
Organizations interested in using this system must complete the necessary registration and verification processes before receiving access.
The government is also encouraging Nigerian developers and technology companies to suggest new ways to use the digital postal code system.
This initiative is expected to support digital commerce and improve the delivery of various services across the country.
The government believes that allowing developers to build new applications around the system could create more practical uses for digital postcodes.
These developments show how technology can be used to improve everyday services and strengthen Nigeria’s digital economy.
