Tinubu ordered security chiefs to Maiduguri after the suicide bombing

President Bola Tinubu has ordered the country’s security chiefs to move to Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State to take control of the situation, after Boko Haram bombers detonated explosives on Monday that killed about 24 people and injured 100 others.

The President gave the directive in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja.

He said he had also directed emergency agencies to provide proper treatment to the injured.

The statement read in part: “The recent news from Maiduguri, Borno State, is deeply disappointing. I mourn those who lost their lives, sympathize with those injured and stand in solidarity with the people of Borno during this challenging time.

“I want to make it clear that these acts of terror are the latest desperate and panicked attempts by criminals and terrorist elements trying to instill and spread fear, as they are constantly under pressure from our brave armed forces and security agencies and are operating on multiple fronts.

“We will continue to intensify efforts against all criminal elements, wherever they are.

“I must commend the courage and fighting spirit of our patriotic troops who successfully repelled a coordinated attack by terrorists on military positions in the state.

“Monday’s attack was a reckless act of an evil-minded terrorist group. Our valiant military and civilian task forces will contain and take them down.

“Last weekend, in a security meeting with security and intelligence agency leaders, I approved additional equipment and operational support to enhance their capabilities. These efforts are already underway.

“In addition, I have directed the security chiefs to move to Maiduguri to handle the situation. I have also directed emergency agencies to provide appropriate treatment to those injured.

“There is no place in Nigeria where terrorists can find safety. We will find them, confront them and defeat them completely.

“Nigeria will not give in to fear.”
