Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu has ordered the deployment of tactical teams to ensure the safety of lives and property during Eid al-Fitr celebrations.
Disu also congratulated Muslims on successfully fulfilling the Ramadan fast and welcoming Eid al-Fitr.
A statement by police spokesperson, Anthony Placid, on Friday stated that the Inspector General directed Police Commissioners and Tactical Commanders in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to implement comprehensive security measures during the festive period.
The directive includes the strategic deployment of tactical teams and intelligence operations, as well as the mobilization of Special Intervention Forces and conventional police personnel to Eid prayer sites and other critical infrastructure.

“Operational measures include strategic deployment of tactical teams and intelligence operations, deployment of Special Intervention Forces and conventional police personnel to Eid prayer sites and critical infrastructure, as well as increased presence on roads, car parks, recreation centers and other public spaces to ensure peaceful and hassle-free celebrations,” the statement said.
Disu further ordered increased visibility monitoring, coordinated patrols, increased surveillance operations, and intelligence-led stop and search tasks to proactively prevent criminal activities and respond quickly to any emerging threats.
Disu appealed to the public to remain alert, cooperate with law enforcement officials, and immediately report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or via the designated emergency route.
