Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr, a retired Revolutionary Guard commander, was appointed Secretary General of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.
The appointment follows the killing of Ali Larijani in a targeted Israeli attack.
The appointment, which was confirmed through a decree of the president and senior officials, was reported by Iranian news outlets citing X’s post by Mehdi Tabatabai, deputy head of communications at the Presidential Office.

Little is known to the public about Zolghadr. Born in the mid-1950s, he is a veteran of the Iran-Iraq War (1980–1988).
He spent his military career in the powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
He recently served on the Conciliation Council, an arbitration body that mediates disputes in Iran’s political system.
