TCN begins repairs on vandalized towers in Rivers

The Transmission Company of Nigeria has begun the rehabilitation of four transmission towers damaged by vandals along the 132 kV Afam-IPP-Elelenwo double circuit transmission line in Rivers State.

The company said the affected towers, identified as T50 to T53, were discovered during an inspection by TCN Engineers Port Harcourt Region on August 6, 2026.

The company said members of the tower were removed and carried away, leaving the transmission infrastructure vulnerable to further damage.
“The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) is currently rehabilitating four towers damaged by vandalism along the 132 kV Afam-IPP-Elelenwo double circuit transmission line. The incident was discovered on 6 August 2026 by the company’s line engineers in the Port Harcourt region,” TCN’s statement read in part.

TCN said the affected structures were towers T50 to T53, adding that members of the towers had been removed.

“Towers T50 to T53 were hit, their members were removed and taken away.
“As the rehabilitation work progresses, we call on all stakeholders to join forces to curb the menace that is threatening the stability of the national grid,” the statement added.
