AFCON 2027 Qualifiers: Taiwo Awoniyi returns to Super Eagles, replaces Victor Osimhen

Coventry City striker Taiwo Awoniyi has been called up to replace Victor Osimhen in Nigeria’s squad for the upcoming 2027 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.

The Nigerian Football Federation announced the inclusion of Awoniyi as the Super Eagles prepare for the crucial qualifiers.

The striker returns to the national team after missing recent international matches and will provide another attacking option for coach Éric Chelle.

Awoniyi, who previously represented Nigeria at senior level, is expected to compete for a place in the starting lineup as the Super Eagles continue their preparations for the 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign.

Nigeria will take on Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Friday, September 25 before traveling to face Guinea-Bissau days later.
