Pandemonium: CNG buses explode in Kaduna

Three luxury buses belonging to the Silver Transport company have been destroyed in an early morning explosion at Mando Motor Park in Kaduna.

The exploded vehicles are powered by methane.

The accident occurred around 3 a.m., when the vehicles were parked ahead of interstate travel later in the day.

A manager from one of the logistics companies operating within the park, who spoke on condition of anonymity to Blueprint.ng, said the explosion occurred while the vehicles were stationary.

While stating that the affected buses were recently purchased, the director “Thank God there was no one on board the vehicles. They were parked to pick up passengers,” he said.

He added that the buses were powered by compressed natural gas (CNG), expressing concern about their use.

“These vehicles use methane. We are not mature enough to use them,” he said.

The source said officers from the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant agencies were at the scene to determine the cause of the explosion.

“They are carrying out investigations to ascertain the causes of the accident,” he added.
