Teenager arrested after fatal stabbing of student at Niger campus party

An 18-year-old resident of Niger State, Jafar Musa, has been detained following the fatal stabbing of a student of the Federal University of Education Kontagora during a campus assembly.

The victim, identified as 25-year-old Seyi Simon, lost his life following a violent fight at a party organized for new students. The incident occurred in the institutional hall in the Kontagora Local Government Area during Easter celebrations.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that the dispute between Musa, said to be from the Angwan-Gwari area of ​​Kontagora, and the deceased escalated into a physical confrontation. When the clash occurred, Musa allegedly stabbed Simon with a dagger.

Simon was rushed to the General Hospital in Kontagora, where he was later confirmed dead.

Confirming the development, spokesperson of the Niger State Police Command, Wasiu Abiodun, said the suspect had been arrested and investigations were ongoing.

“On 5/4/2026 at around 01.40 WIB, it was reported in A Div Kontangora that a new student party was being held by students at FUE kgora in the school hall.

“There was a misunderstanding between Jafar Musa, an 18-year-old resident of Angwan-Gwari Kontangora, and Seyi Simon, 25, a student of the school.

“During a fight, Jafar Musa stabbed the student with a dagger. The victim was rushed to the General Hospital in Kontangora and was confirmed dead.

“The suspect was arrested for further investigation,” said Abiodun.

Authorities said further investigations are underway to determine the complete circumstances surrounding the incident.
