Sevilla made their moments count at Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, beating Atlético Madrid 2-1 in La Liga despite having much less of the ball.

Akor Adams converted an early penalty and captain Nemanja Gudelj headed the winner in first-half stoppage time.

Atlético equalized through Javier Boñar but failed to convert 68% of possession into points.

Sevilla thought they had a penalty for Isaac Romero in the 8th minute after a tangle, but VAR said no. Two minutes later Adams had his chance from the spot after Dani Martínez conceded a penalty, and the striker slotted the ball past Juan Musso.

Atlético responds in the 35th minute. Julio Díaz served a nice cross from the right and Javier Boñar raised his header to make it 1-1. Sevilla had the final say of the half, however, when Gudelj directed a header into the corner at 45+2 after Ruben Vargas kept a second ball alive.

After the break the opportunities decreased. Romero hit the woodwork for the hosts and Sevilla controlled the game late on, with a couple of yellow cards for time wasting telling the story. Referee Isidro Díaz de Mera showed eight yellows in total.

Sevilla leaned on a compact 5-4-1 and were excellent in duels, winning 62% and leading tackles 16-8 and interceptions 9-3.

Kike Salas collected 12 clearances and the backline had a total of 32 rebounds.

Atlético completed more than double the passes and controlled the territory, but the final ball often met a white shirt.
