Nigeria is set to deepen its diplomatic presence across the world as the federal government concludes deals to send a new batch of 25 ambassadors on strategic missions abroad, marking a significant step in the country’s renewed foreign policy push.
The Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, disclosed this on Friday in Abuja while briefing journalists on key developments within the Ministry and ongoing diplomatic engagements in Nigeria.
He said the process has advanced considerably, with the government having already secured more than 25 formal acceptances – known in diplomatic circles as agréments – from host countries. The approvals signal that the receiving nations have completed due diligence and have formally agreed to the nomination of Nigeria’s nominees.
Describing the development as a key milestone, Ebienfa announced that a high-level induction program for envoys will be scheduled from April 26 to 29, 2026. He said the exercise will serve as a strategic guidance platform, preparing ambassadors for the complex demands of representing Nigeria’s interests abroad.
“We have received more than 25 agreements from the countries where the designated ambassadors have been sent. With the induction program scheduled for the end of this month, the deployment will begin immediately after the exercise,” he said.

According to him, the introduction will go beyond ceremonial briefings, focusing on the practical realities of modern diplomacy, including bilateral engagement strategies, conduct and protocol in host countries, economic diplomacy and alignment with Nigeria’s foreign policy priorities under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He added that, in line with diplomatic tradition, spouses of envoys will also participate in some aspects of the program, reflecting their supporting role in representing the country’s image and values abroad.
While most ambassadors-designate are expected to resume their service assignments immediately upon investiture, Ebienfa noted that some assignments may still be subject to final administrative clearances.
He noted that even if any of the designated ambassadors were rejected by the country to which they were assigned, there was still room for reassignment to another country.
The upcoming deployment is seen as a decisive move by the federal government to revitalize Nigeria’s diplomatic architecture, strengthen bilateral and multilateral ties, and position the country more assertively on the global stage amid changing geopolitical and economic realities.
