Tinubu sends message to opposition, says ‘you can’t scare me’

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday sent a message to opposition figures and political parties who want to contest the 2027 elections with him.

The President, while hosting a delegation of New Hope Ambassadors led by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma at the State House, said he was not afraid of the competition.

He said: “They want to scare me? That’s a lie. I’ve been down this road before. And if I had to come back again and again, I would do the same. There is no better place than your own country. And no one can build it except you. We see great things, skyscrapers. We wonder how planes take off and fly us from one destination to another. There are no miracles yesterday. It is the thinker of tomorrow and the future who can improve life, that is what can reform us all.

“And as a transformative leader, you are in good company. Don’t be afraid. I have heard you. I don’t need to look back at the economy because the truth is, I took it over from myself. The late Buhari was me. He was my partner. And if I took over from him. Wouldn’t it be from me? So, if something goes wrong, fine. Live it, fix it, move on. The journey of life will not be easy. I can only stand before you and say you will not regret it. Therefore we ask you to renew their hopes. If they don’t want to see the hope and the roads and the bridges, and the children we’re raising, the economy we’re growing, we’ll lend them Jigi-Bola, the glasses. The one thing you need from me is a promise that I won’t run away from the affair, the deal is done.”

President Tinubu reiterated his commitment to building a stable, peaceful and prosperous country, ensuring that the welfare of the Nigerian people remains his top priority.

He stated that the political and economic structures that have long undermined the well-being of the Nigerian people are now steadily being replaced through realignment of the economy to enable full participation.

He vowed to maintain reforms aimed at creating more opportunities for the poor and vulnerable.

Vice President Kashim Shettima and National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, also attended the event, along with many governors: Mai Mala Buni (Yobe), Mohammed Inuwa (Gombe), Nasir Idris (Kebbi), Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Usman Ododo (Kogi), Abiodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), Hyacinth Alia (Benue), Agbu Kefas (Taraba), Monday Okpebholo (Edo), and Uba Sani (Kaduna), who also serves as Deputy Director General of Renewable Hope Ambassadors.

A number of former governors, including Aminu Bello Masari (Katsina), Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta), and Tanko Almakura (Nasarawa), as well as former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim, APC National Secretary Senator Ajibola Bashiru, New Hope Ambassador zone coordinator, director and Special Advisor to the President on Politics, Ibrahim Masari.

President Tinubu emphasized that the more citizens participate in shaping their lives and future, the better society will be for future generations.

He urged the New Hope Ambassadors to continue to sensitize and mobilize the public, especially at the grassroots, about the government’s efforts to improve their livelihoods through economic reform.

“You represent the conscience of a nation that wants to throw off the shackles of poverty and despair,” he said.

President Tinubu assured that the government will uphold the principles of democracy, including the rule of law, separation of powers and the rights of all citizens.

He encouraged the public not to be discouraged by the misinformation championed by opposition elements in the country.

He said the great achievements witnessed in modern times were achieved through visionary leadership, which ensured that Nigeria was in good hands.

Earlier, the Director General of Renewed Hope Ambassadors (RHA) and Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma, said they were at the State House to update the President on the progress achieved so far.

The North West Zone Coordinator of the New Hope Ambassadors and former Governor of Katsina State, Aminu Bello Masari, has commended the President for his courage and political wisdom, describing him as a persistent reformer despite huge hardships.

“We know very well that reformers always find it very difficult at first. Moreover, if you carry out reforms in a society that is very difficult to understand, and there are those who are willing to make people not understand,” said Masari.

Former Governor Okowa, former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim, Governors Uba Sani and Biodun Oyebanji also conveyed messages of goodwill at the meeting.
