SCORENigeria Top 5: Great player Ademola Lookman keeps Atleti’s Champions League hopes alive

Ademola Lookman shined brightly in last week’s big games, scoring the all-important tiebreaker that took Atlético Madrid past Barcelona into the UEFA Champions League semi-finals and then hitting the target in the Copa del Rey final against Real Sociedad.

5.Josh Maja

The Super Eagles striker scored one of the goals that moved West Bromwich Albion away from the relegation zone of the English championship. Maja opened the scoring at Preston as The Baggies moved five points clear of the relegation zone with three rounds of matches remaining in the regular season. The proven goalscorer has now put his injury problems behind him to score four goals this season.

Onyeka returns to the Premier League

4.Frank Onyeka

The Super Eagles midfielder put in a decent performance as Coventry City got the draw they needed against Blackburn Rovers to seal their promotion to the Premier League after a 25-year absence. The Brentford loanee was part of this historic feat which also means he will make a permanent switch to Coventry City in the new season. He has made a huge impact on his new team since arriving in January.

3.Prospero Pedro

The 18-year-old forward scored his fifth goal in Ligue 1 and it was a very important goal as it kept his club Angers further away from the relegation zone. It has been an impressive debut season in the French top flight for the French under-19 international, to the point where he is now on the Super Eagles’ radar. Will he be called up for next month’s Unity Cup in London?

2.Kelechi Iheanacho

‘Senior Man Kels’ is back in fine form for Scottish giants Celtic after an injury layoff, as he scored twice in extra time to beat St. Mirren 6-2 and reach the Scottish Cup final. It’s a case where form is temporary but class is permanent, as the Super Eagles striker scored twice to set up the cup final clash against Dunfermline on May 23 at Hampden Park.

1.Ademola Lookman

He is certainly enjoying his time in Spain with top-level goals and individual performances for Atlético Madrid since his arrival from Italy in January. He scored the most important goal for Atleti to beat Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League. In the second leg of the semi-finals at the Metropolitano, Barcelona quickly annulled the two goals conceded at home, but ‘Mola’ closed the gap on the half-hour mark. That was decisive for Atleti to advance to the semi-finals against Arsenal 3-2 on aggregate. He also scored in the Copa del Rey final against Real Sociedad, but unfortunately Atlético came up short when they lost in a penalty shootout after the score remained 2-2 even in extra time. Ademola Lookman has scored seven goals and provided four assists in all competitions for his new club, making him a clear and present danger for Arsenal in the Champions League.
