The Social Democratic Party (SDP) said it expects a clean bill of health from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) when the election management body releases its audit report on the party.
Party president Sadiq Abubakar Gombe also said commission officials had confirmed the SDP leadership ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Gombe disclosed this while speaking to journalists at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja following the INEC audit.
According to him, the party, with the presence of members of the National Executive Committee, comprising the presidents of the 36 states, collaborated with the CENI during the verification exercise.
“A team of eleven members of the INEC team came today (Tuesday) for the verification exercise at the SDP headquarters. As you know, one of the requirements for registering a political party is that it must be present in at least 2/3 of the states of the federation.
“INEC came to verify the membership of the NEC to see them physically and interact with them and the members of the National Working Committee,” he said.
He noted that the Supreme Court had on several occasions issued rulings that domestic disputes were the business of the parties.
Prof. Gombe took over the leadership of the opposition party after the Supreme Court rejected INEC’s appeal.
