The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has officially started talks with Newcastle United striker William Osula to play for Nigeria, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Born to parents of Nigerian descent in Denmark, his parents granted permission to speak to him after consulting with their representatives.
Danish outlet Tipsbladet reports that the striker, who was last selected for the Danish national team in March but did not make his debut, is in talks with Nigeria.
They said the 22-year-old was contacted by a member of Eric Chelle’s staff, at a time when Denmark were unable to play Denmark after they failed to qualify for the World Cup.
Although Osula has eight in 15 games for the Danish under-21s, he has never debuted for Brian Riemer’s team, and Nigeria will take advantage of that.
Osula was called up by Riemer in his March squad for the fateful World Cup qualifying matches against North Macedonia and the Czech Republic, but was unable to play in any of the matches.
In his last four Premier League games, the towering striker has scored three goals, including the winner against Manchester United and Saturday’s goal against Bournemouth.
