Alleged ritual: Court adjourns Anambra native doctor’s case to June 3

Justice Jude Obiora of the Anambra State High Court, Awka, on Friday adjourned a case of alleged fraud and rituals involving a Nnewi-based indigene doctor, Ikechukwu Ezenagu, to June 3.

The judge adjourned the case after the court determined that the defendant was not medically fit to accept his plea.

The accused, known as “Mmuo Mmili Afulu Anya,” (Water Spirit) was brought to court amid a dispute between the prosecution and defense teams regarding his health status.

The prosecution, led by the Anambra State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Tobechukwu Nweke (SAN), insisted that the case must proceed.

However, the defense attorney, Mr. Kingsley Awuka, stated that his client’s condition required medical attention before further processing.

Speaking to journalists after the hearing, Nweke said the state government remained ready to proceed with the prosecution of the case.

Meanwhile, Awuka is optimistic that the defendant will be able to stand trial at the next adjournment.

Ezenagu was arrested on March 12 in Nnewi on suspicion of illegal rituals and supplying fake currency to internet fraudsters.

He was tried under the Anambra State Internal Security Law.
