The Nigerian administration in Nigeria needs more former players and educated minds, according to former Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong.
Ekong, 32, ended his international career after 10 years and 83 caps for Nigeria. He revealed that he has started taking relevant courses made available by the English FA for players in transit in their careers.
The former Watford centre-half revealed his ambitions to run for a position with the NFF, although he did not give any details.
Proposing the need for more former players as decision makers in Nigerian football, Ekong insists that the experience gained as professional athletes and the knowledge available through education are important assets.

“I think for me now it’s the educational part, because we have a lot of former players who have a great knowledge of the game.
“I don’t think we’ve seen enough former players involved from the top,” he said.
“For me, in Nigerian football, it is about finding ways to collaborate and improve the federation because we have been there, we have seen it and the generations before me have done it.”
Future as a coach
Ekong quickly distanced himself from accepting a coaching position.
“A lot of people have asked me about how to coach the team, I’m not sure it’s something I really want to do, simply because I think there also needs to be players who think about going one level further, whether it’s in the boardroom, whether they’re going to work with the federations, with FIFA, with CAF or with the NFF. And I think that’s probably where the biggest change can be made. It’s a difficult picture because in African football there is also a lot of politics involved,” he explained.
