Gombe Senator Yaro switches from PDP to APC

Gombe State Governor and leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has welcomed Senator Anthony Siyako Yaro into the ruling party following his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The move, which came on Thursday evening, adds fresh momentum to the growing dominance of the APC in the state, as more and more opposition figures continue to switch allegiances.

Senator Yaro, who represents Gombe South Senatorial District, becomes the latest prominent politician to join the APC under the leadership of Governor Yahaya, in what observers describe as a strategic realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

His defection follows a series of earlier political changes orchestrated within the state, including the move of three federal legislators to the APC. They include the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, the Hon. Ali Isa JC; Hon Abdullahi El-Rasheed of Dukku/Nafada Federal Constituency; and the Hon. Inuwa Garba, representing Yamaltu/Deba.

With these developments, the APC has further strengthened its position in Gombe, raising the political stakes for opposition parties as they gradually begin preparations for the next election cycle.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya received the Senator alongside key stakeholders of the party including the Leader of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon Usman Bello Kumo and the Deputy National Financial Secretary of the APC, Hon. Hamma Adama Ali Kumo, highlighting a display of unity within the party ranks.
Political analysts say the rising wave of defections could significantly reshape the balance of power in Gombe state in the years leading up to 2027.
