Barcelona tighten grip on La Liga title with 2-0 win at Getafe – THIS UPDATE

By Ayo Kehinde

Goals from Fermin Lopez and substitute Marcus Rashford gave Barcelona a 2-0 win at Getafe on Saturday, extending their lead at the top of La Liga to 11 points.

Lopez broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time, latching onto a precise forward pass from Pedri and rolling the ball low past David Soria into the bottom corner. A composed final that gave the home team no chance.

Getafe’s disciplined defensive shape significantly limited Barcelona’s threat after the break. Dani Olmo came close to doubling his lead, but Soria repelled his attempt after a clear dismissal from Jules Kounde.

The result was put beyond doubt in the 74th minute. Barcelona moved quickly from their own half after Getafe won a corner, with Robert Lewandowski finding the onrushing Rashford in space to beat Soria from the edge of the penalty area.

Marc Casado scored from close range in injury time, but the error had no consequences. Real Madrid had dropped points with a 1-1 draw against Real Betis the night before, making Barcelona’s victory even more impressive in the title race.
