A husband and wife allegedly beat their 10-year-old adopted daughter to death

Police in Lagos have reportedly arrested a couple, Paul Onyeama and Adline Ogbonna, who allegedly beat to death their 10-year-old adopted daughter in Igando area of ​​the state.

It is known that a couple living on Jalan Jemesi Papa reportedly subjected the child, named Faith, to constant abuse, including frequently assaulting her and sending her to carry out heavy tasks despite her young age.

He was said to have been ill for about two weeks, but the alleged abuse reportedly continued.

A resident, Adekunle Taofeek, told journalists on Monday that the situation escalated on Sunday when the husband and wife were said to have beaten the sick child severely, leading to his death.

He said, “The couple had adopted a 10-year-old girl. They continuously abused and assaulted the child, and also sent her on unnecessary errands.

“I was told that the girl had been ill for about two weeks, but the abuse continued. Yesterday, the husband and wife allegedly beat the child severely despite her condition, and sadly, she died.”

It was gathered that the suspects then took the victim to hospital, where he was confirmed dead on arrival.

Enraged by the development, youths in the area who came to know about the incident arrested the woman.

Another resident who declined to be named said the husband, who allegedly left the house earlier to take a tricycle to dispose of the girl’s body, was also detained by the youths.

“When the girl died, they kept her body in the room and acted as if nothing had happened. His wife even went out this morning to cook in the kitchen as if nothing had happened.

“It was the residents who observed what happened that raised concerns about the girl’s whereabouts before they found out that she had died. If they managed to dispose of her body, no one would know her whereabouts,” said the resident.

He added that the matter was immediately reported to the Igando Police Division, following which police officers visited the scene, leading to the arrest of the couple and the discovery of the child’s body.
