The Auditor General of Ekiti State, Oluwole Adeuya, has meritoriously retired from public service in the state after reaching the statutory retirement age.
Adeuya, who hails from Ido-Ekiti in Ido/Osi Local Government Area, was appointed Auditor General of the state in 2020 by former governor Kayode Fayemi.
Speaking in Ado-Ekiti, Wednesday, at the Meritorious Service and Punishment Ceremony in his honour, the Ekiti State Head of Service, Olufolake Olomojobi, described the former Auditor General as an amiable professional who ensured financial accountability and probity.
He noted that the former Auditor General improved financial management systems in the state public service and urged serving auditors to emulate his world-class professionalism.
His words: He is a very amiable professional. He took office on merit in accordance with the merit-based appointment principle of the Ekiti State Government. He was able to work well with the team to improve our financial management systems. He was able to physically transform his office and contributed immensely to public service by ensuring financial accountability and probity.
“This is also based on his strong network with the Ministry of Finance, with his predecessors and with the entire audit team. As a public service body, we greatly appreciate the role he has played over the last two years and look forward to his continued collaboration in the public service.
“My duty to the members of the Audit Office is to learn from his professionalism, his ability to engage stakeholders very well and to understand that their role is to prevent incursions into financial management and educate the public service at every opportunity that arises.”
Likewise, the Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Stephen Aribasoye, fondly recalled the enormous support the retired Auditor General received during his stint in public service.
Aribasoye hailed the outgoing Auditor General, describing him as a great unifier committed to the progress and development of public service in the State Audit Office.
According to him: “Of my 17 years of service, I spent 14 years in this office. One of the men who made this place so memorable to me is the man we are celebrating. When I was leaving the office, my direct boss was Adeuya. Whatever we do today will surely land on the shore of tomorrow. All of us are mere links in the chain of history
“I remember when I was in school, I was under your guidance. All the privileges I needed to enjoy, you never denied me. That’s why when it was our turn to stand by you, we stood by you.
“All of us can see what leadership should be and we have seen leadership leading from the front. It’s a leader, not a boss. It’s the impact you’ve had on the people who will speak after you. I’m one of those who benefited from you in the status check.”
In his valedictory address, Adeuya expressed appreciation to the Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, for his strong commitment to good governance which has significantly strengthened public sector accountability in the state.
He highlighted significant milestones and landmark achievements during his tenure as Auditor General to include; the granting of operational and financial autonomy to both state and local audit offices, the appointment and confirmation of the secretary of the Audit Service Commission with the status of Permanent Secretary.
Other milestones include the appointment of four deputy auditors general in state and local government audit offices, construction of a separate office for the auditor general and additional office space, construction of a perimeter fence, and landscaping of the Office of the State Auditor General.
The retired Auditor General equally acknowledged the invaluable contributions of the Speaker of the Ekiti State Assembly, stressing that his legislative support has helped create an enabling environment for the strengthening of the audit institution in the state.
The former Auditor General took the opportunity to appreciate the Commissioner for Finance, Akin Oyebode, Chairman, Ekiti State Audit Service Commission, Commissioners, Ministries, Departments, Agencies and his colleagues in the Office of the Auditor General for their support and constant commitment during his tenure.
He urged public officials to continue to uphold the core values of integrity, responsibility and service to the people, stressing that the strength of institutions depends on the character and commitment of public office holders.
In their separate goodwill messages, the Chairman of the Audit Service Commission, Ade-Ojo Adebayo and the Chairman of the Auditor General Corps and the Auditor General of Ondo State, Sunday Adegoke, commended Adeuya for his prudent management of the public service.
Highlights of the momentous event include the reserved formality, special interpretation and performance by Audit Voice and Ekiti State Performing Arts Company, and prayers for the celebrant.
