Leicester City defender Olabade Aluko played for the England Under-20 team after being abused in the Nigerian Under-20 team camp before their participation in the Under-20 World Cup in Chile.
After Leicester City’s relegation from the English championship to League One, many players have become the target of other teams and Aluko, due to his age, has many suitors.
Aluko, 19, arrived at the Nigerian national team camp in Abuja to lobby coach Aliyu Zubairu for a place in the team, but was ruled out for reasons no one in particular could explain.
A source close to the defender, who has played seven games for the first team this season, five of them in the English championship, claims that Zubairu did not seem to value him.
“The body language was bad from the beginning when he came to the camp. It started because he does not have a Nigerian passport and cannot handle the intensity of the team. But I must say that no one asked us for money,” he told OwnGoalNigeria.com in an exclusive chat.
“He played for England U20 two months after leaving the Nigerian camp and has since managed to make it to Leicester City’s first team. I read that the coach is no longer there and I felt it was the right thing to do,” he said.
