The Tunji Braithwaite Foundation (TBF) has made arrangements for the 10th anniversary commemoration of lawyer, social justice advocate and politician, Dr Tunji Braithwaite, which will take place on Saturday 2 May 2026 at the Conference Hall of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, the Nigerian capital.
Among the highlights of the event, which will have President Bola Tinubu as special guest of honour, is the presentation of a commemorative book on the political icon. Written by a renowned journalist and public relations consultant, Muyiwa Akintunde, the literary work delves into the crusade for social justice and human rights of the beloved legal professional, who practiced his profession in the dogged pursuit of justice, especially for the most vulnerable.
The book underlines that, for Braithwaite, who died on 28 March 2016 at the age of 82, “rights and privileges should not be the prerogative only of the nouveau riche, but must also be accessible to plebeians”.
The book, created by TBF, captures Braithwaite’s devotion to the cause he truly believed in, a cause he launched throughout his illustrious legal career, defending the oppressed no matter the cost. His relentless fight for what was right and true resonates in this book. Even when faced with the gun, he never gave in. For him, evil would never triumph with the will and determination to do the right things,” said Akintunde, publisher of Breezy News, an online newspaper that promotes ethical journalism.
The book will be reviewed by a director of the Commonwealth Institute of Advanced and Professional Studies, Prof. Anthony Kila, who is a frequent commentator on ARISE News. It provides analysis on politics, economics and policy and also discusses leadership, constitutional issues and governance.
The theme of the event is “Politics with Conscience: Leadership, Responsibility and the Nigerian Social Contract”.
A former governor of Osun State, Chief Bisi Akande, will be the chairman of the event, while Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, will be the chief guest, while Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, will be the guest of honour.
