2027 Shock: Binani leaves ADC and brings Adamawa’s political firepower to NDC

In a move set to shake up Adamawa politics, former governorship candidate and former senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed Binani has quit the ADC for the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDCA, redrawing the battle lines ahead of 2027.

Binani entered the NDC fold in Abuja on Friday, welcomed by the national leader, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, party chiefs and an entire national working committee. It is his second defection in months: from APC to ADC, now from ADC to NDC.

“It’s not about me,” Binani said, his voice firm. “It’s about the people who have stood by me. They are at the center of my journey.” He pointed to the NDC’s promise of “structured and policy-driven governance” as the driving force, vowing to root the party deep in the soil of Adamawa and strive for fairness, justice and true internal democracy.

Dickson didn’t hesitate. He handed her the keys to Adamawa. “She has been entrusted with the responsibility of party leadership in Adamawa,” he said, charging her to heal divisions and build a machine strong enough to win.

She also cast a wider net, calling on women and political heavyweights nationwide to call the NDC their home. “We are an inclusive platform,” Dickson said, underlining the party’s commitment to affirmative action for women.

For Binani the stakes are personal. The APC flag bearer who came within centimeters of Government House in Adamawa in 2023 now carries the NDC banner. His arrival immediately gives the young party strength, structure and a battle-savvy general in one of the North’s fiercest political arenas.

With 2027 already in full swing, Adamawa just got a new power map. And Binani is holding the compass.
