A distinguished public administration scholar, Professor Ehiyamen Mediayanose Osezua, will deliver the 11th inaugural lecture of the Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, Ondo State.
Titled “Governing Without Results: Public Administration, Leadership and Institutional Failure in Nigeria. Quo Vadis”, the lecture which will be chaired by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Temi E. Ologunorisa, will be held at the main auditorium of the institution at 1pm on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.
One of Nigeria’s most accomplished academics, whose career embodies scholarship, leadership, public service and institutional transformation, Osezua is a professor in the Department of Public Administration in the School of Management Sciences and a leading scholar in higher education and conflict management. He has earned a reputation as a respected scholar, higher education administrator, political thinker, researcher, public intellectual, editor, mentor, and civic leader whose influence extends beyond the walls of the university into broader society.
His intellectual contributions and professional engagements span Nigeria, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Ghana, Senegal, Namibia, Russia, Togo, Mexico and other parts of the world, making him a truly global academic voice in governance, leadership, higher education, institutional development and public sector reform.
Born on 15 February 1973 in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria, Professor Osezua, a native of Uhiele in Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State, taught at Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, University of Lagos, Osun State University and University of Ilorin.
Visiting Research Scholar at the University of Texas at Austin, USA from 2018 to 2022, Osezua worked as a professional researcher from 2022 to 2023 and a research-in-residence at the Department of Government, Innovations for Peace and Development, The University of Texas at Austin.
He is also an adjunct professor of Public Administration at Austin Christian University, Texas, and has been a guest educator in the Round Rock Independent School District in the United States. He also served on the board of directors of the Travis Central Appraisal District, Texas.
He is currently the Dean of the School of Management Sciences, Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, where he provides strategic, academic and administrative leadership for scholarship advancement, institutional visibility, staff development, innovation and academic excellence. His academic excellence has earned him a notable array of scholarships, grants, awards and international research opportunities.
He has participated in and contributed to major academic and policy initiatives associated with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the World Bank’s Stolen Assets Recovery Initiative, the United States Institute of Peace, the Brown International Advanced Research Institutes of Brown University, the Human Sciences Research Council of South Africa, the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA), the Undergraduate Research Committee of Obafemi Awolowo University, the Federal Government Scholarship Board, Abuja, the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, and the multinational collaborative project Moral Eyes.
An elected member of the Congregational Senate at Osun State University, Osezua is a member of the Faculty Senate at Austin Christian University and a member of the Austin Christian University Government Advisory Council. He also served as an elected University of Texas at Austin Staff Council member, where he was identified as the only Black African in that role during the 2024 to 2025 term. In all of these positions, he has demonstrated administrative tact, institutional wisdom, collegiality, and an ongoing ability to build consensus and foster growth.
One of its most distinguished academic awards remains the best Ph.D. Africa Dissertation Award awarded by CODESRIA in 2006, a landmark honor that speaks eloquently to the originality, relevance and academic quality of his doctoral work. Professor Osezua was also named a Fellow of BIARI, Brown University, in 2017.
A prolific scholar of international repute, Professor Osezua has authored over 55 peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, edited works and accepted manuscripts published in renowned national and international bodies in Nigeria, the United States, Romania, India, Uganda, Ethiopia, Turkey, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and other countries.
His most recent and notable works include studies of public-private partnerships and bus rapid performance in Africa and Latin America, urban mobility transformation, leadership skills as a panacea for public sector success, bureaucratic corruption and public service reform in Nigeria, party alignment and democratic consolidation, institutional conflict management in African higher education, and effective oversight of work in the Nigerian education sector. Through these scholarly contributions, he has become an important voice in contemporary conversations on public administration, institutional leadership, governance reform, and development in Africa and beyond.
Professor Osezua has equally made lasting contributions to scholarly publishing and scholarly visibility through his editorial leadership. He was the founding editor-in-chief of Management and Development Review at OAUSTECH, founding editor-in-chief of the Ilorin Journal of Administration and Development from 2015 to 2019, founding editor-in-chief of the Journal of Organizational Leadership and Management in the United States, founding editor-in-chief of the Administrator’s Quarterly Journal of the Chartered Institute of Public Administration of Nigeria, and co-editor of Contemporary Issues in the Management of Higher Education.
Through these editorial roles, he has advanced scholarly discourse, strengthened scholarly publishing, and promoted the visibility of research within and beyond Nigeria. His work and his editorial service together reflect a constant commitment to the production and dissemination of knowledge.
Osezua attended Edo College, Benin City, for his secondary education. He was later admitted to the University of Benin, where he obtained his bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Public Administration in 1997. He also obtained his master’s degree in Public Administration in 2002 from the same university.
He concluded his journey with a PhD in Public Administration from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife in 2006, specializing in Higher Education Administration and Conflict Management.
He also earned a Diploma in Leadership from Austin Christian University, Texas, in 2023, where he graduated as the top student overall.
He is happily married to Associate Professor Oghoadena Osezua, a distinguished scholar of anthropology and gender studies, former academic staff member of Obafemi Awolowo University, author of the award-winning book Crowned with Truth, convener of Hadassah Forum International in the United States and a certified teacher in the United States who is currently associated with the Austin Independent School District and also a Research Fellow in Residence at the University of Texas at Austin.
