Court remands Chidiebere Mark to DSS custody over alleged false charges against military

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered Chidiebere Mark remanded in custody by the Department of State Services (DSS) following allegations that he made false claims about the Nigerian Army.

Justice Joyce Abdulmalik issued the remand order after Mark, who lives in Lot 88, Sabo Lugbe, Abuja, was sued for posting a viral video on his handle X (Justice Crack), in which he claimed that Nigerian military personnel were poorly fed. The DSS charged Mark with making the post, which reportedly went viral across social media platforms.

Mark pleaded not guilty to the three-count indictment when it was read to him. The prosecuting lawyer, Mr. E. Orubo, sought a date for the prosecution to open its case and urged the court to keep the accused in DSS custody.

Defense lawyer Marshall Abubakar requested bail for Mark, but Judge Abdulmalik ordered that a formal bail application be made. In her ruling, she released Mark back into DSS custody and adjourned the case to May 25, 2026, for the start of the trial and hearing of the bail application.
