The court will decide on the suspension of ADC Ireti Kingibe on May 18

The Federal High Court, Abuja, on Wednesday, set its May 18 decision on a lawsuit regarding the indefinite suspension of Senator Ireti Kingibe by the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The ADC branch in Wuse Ward has appealed to the court to uphold the lawmaker’s suspension for misconduct.

Kingibe, who represents the Federal Capital Territory in the Senate, was suspended indefinitely by the ward executive for alleged anti-party activities and violation of the party’s constitution.

At the resumed hearing on the matter, Kingibe’s legal advisor, Mr. Marshall Abubakar told the court that the matter was purely an internal party matter.

According to Abubakar, the case should be stopped with punitive consequences.

He said that the parties had procedures to handle cases as they occurred in court, but these procedures were not followed by the plaintiff.

“The defendant was never invited to anything and there were no complaints against him,” he said.

He added that the plaintiffs had no place to file a lawsuit because they themselves were dismissed by the party.

The lawyer prayed the court to dismiss the matter in its entirety and award a penalty of N25 million to the plaintiff.

In his argument, the plaintiff’s attorney, Mr IG Ogugua prayed that the court reject the defendant’s arguments.

According to Ogugua, there is nothing sacred in the internal affairs of political parties that violate the constitution.

Judge Peter Lifu set a date of May 18 to rule on the matter.
