Nigerian midfielder Alex Iwobi has opened up about the differences in managerial approach between Carlo Ancelotti and Arsène Wenger.
Reflecting on his experience, Iwobi explained that Ancelotti often delegated coaching responsibilities to his son, Davide Ancelotti, while taking on a more observant role.
“There is a big difference in the management style,” said the Nigerian midfielder.
“Obviously, when it was announced that Carlo Ancelotti was coming to Everton, everyone said this can’t be real. Then when he stopped at the canteen, with his Italian style, the suit, the jacket and the eyebrow he does, everyone was looking.
“But he is not as practical as Arsène Wenger. He usually takes charge of training one or two days before the game.
“Most of the time, it’s his son Davide who runs the sessions and does the talking. Most of the time, he’s just observing; he’s not really hands-on, so I had to learn that.
“But he was actually calm and collected, he would talk to you if he wanted to. He was a good guy.”

Iwobi played under Ancelotti at Everton for a season and a half, from December 2019 until the Italian left in June 2021.
During that period, the midfielder played 45 games and experienced notable development in his game.
Under Ancelotti, Iwobi improved his efficiency in the final third, with greater focus on decision-making and creating better opportunities for his teammates after beating defenders.
The Italian also used him in multiple positions, including right-back, left-back and right midfield, which improved his tactical flexibility and defensive awareness.
