Tensions have erupted within the Yobe State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as all governorship aspirants of the party collectively rejected a purported endorsement of a consensus candidate, calling it illegal and a violation of both the Electoral Act 2026 and the APC Constitution.
At the end of a crucial meeting held in Abuja, aggrieved aspirants issued a strongly worded statement demanding the immediate removal of the Yobe State APC Chairman from any role in the forthcoming primary election process.
Aspirants have accused the state party chief of displaying “continued apparent partisanship,” insisting he is “highly compromised” and unfit to oversee credible primaries.
They stated a complete lack of confidence in his ability to conduct a correct exercise.
In their six-point resolution, the group made it clear that any so-called consensus candidate not reached through the strict provisions of the electoral law would be considered unacceptable.
They further warned that if a true consensus agreement remains elusive, the party must resort to “free, fair, transparent and credible direct primaries” as outlined in the APC guidelines.
Despite the ongoing crisis at the state level, the candidates pledged to reaffirm their unwavering loyalty to the national leadership of the APC.
They also pledged full support to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, endorsing his re-election mandate for the 2027 presidential elections.
The meeting concluded with the communique signed and released in Abuja on May 7, 2026, signaling a united front among the aspirants against what they perceive as manipulation by the state party machinery.
