National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu has not resigned, a senior Presidency source said, dismissing reports linking his exit to the creation of the new Office of the Special Adviser on National Security.

The source, quoted by PRNigeria on Monday, said the appointment of retired Major General Adeyinka Famadewa to the new role was aimed at strengthening security coordination, not replacing the NSA.

Famadewa served as the staff officer of former NSA Babagana Monguno from 2015 to 2021.

The office, modeled after the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, will focus on immigration, civil defense, transportation security and domestic intelligence.

The source said his mandate does not conflict with ONSA’s constitutional responsibilities.

“Rumors that Mallam Nuhu Ribadu has resigned are completely false and should be ignored,” the source said.

Ribadu continues to enjoy President Tinubu’s trust and remains active in coordinating national security, intelligence and interagency operations, the source added.
