Sinner against Medvedev in Roma SF, game suspended in the third…

● The winner will face Ruud last Sunday in Rome

Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev were close to reaching the crescendo of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia semi-final on Friday evening when play was suspended due to rain.

Announcement

Sinner leads Medvedev 6-2, 5-7, 4-2, with the latter serving at Ad/40.

The players departed from the Central Court at 9.45pm in Rome. At 10.37pm, the tournament announced that it would not be played until 11pm

There was a lot of drama in the first two hours and 23 minutes of play.

For much of the second set Sinner struggled to catch his breath after the points, bending over several times to try to recover.

The No. 1 player in the PIF ATP rankings fought back from a break to level the set, before former world No. 1 Medvedev forced the decision.

It appeared Sinner’s bid for his sixth consecutive ATP Masters 1000 title was in danger.

Medvedev was in full swing, playing aggressive whenever possible, defending well from behind the baseline and attacking his opponent’s legs with drop after drop.

But Sinner recovered by taking a 2-1 break in the third set and is now two games away from his second consecutive final at the Foro Italico.

The 24-year-old is two wins away from joining Novak Djokovic as the only players to complete the Career Golden Masters, winning all nine ATP Masters 1000 events.

The winner will face Casper Ruud in the championship game on Sunday. [atptour.com]
