Police arrest 3 people for possession of firearms, suspected of being a cult in Enugu

Police agents in Enugu have arrested a suspected firearms repairman and two other suspects for possession of firearms, ammunition and suspected cultism in the state.

This was disclosed by the State Police Command Spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, in a statement on Sunday in Enugu.

He said agents arrested the suspects through ongoing proactive policing operations across the state.

He added that the evidence recovered in the operation, included three locally made guns, six live bullets, a motorbike and other incriminating items in a separate operation in the Nsukka area of ​​the state.

Ndukwe said officers attached to the Okpuje Divisional Surveillance Team intercepted Sunday Okwumaji, 23, on May 19 during stop and search duty in Ovogovo.

Okwumaji, from Igala-Mela Local Government Area in Kogi, was stopped along the Nsukka-Enugu-Ezike-Umuopu Road.

“A search carried out on the suspect resulted in the discovery of a locally made pistol containing a live bullet hidden in his bag.

“The suspect claimed to be a firearms repairman and stated that the firearm was handed over to him to be repaired by the owner,” said the spokesperson.
