Uganda confirms two more Ebola cases

The Ugandan government on Monday confirmed two more cases of Ebola Virus Disease.

The latest developments bring the total number of cases reported in the East African country to seven.

Uganda’s Ministry of Health said in a statement on Monday that the two new cases were health workers at a private health facility in the capital Kampala and were both Ugandan citizens.

“Both patients have been admitted to the designated care unit and are now receiving treatment,” the ministry said, adding that the emergency response team was tracing all the people who had been in contact ‌with ‌the two people.

Ugandan authorities confirmed three new cases of Ebola on Saturday.

The epicenter of this outbreak is in Ituri province, Democratic Republic of Congo, which borders Uganda.

The World Health Organization has declared the outbreak of the rare Bundibugyo strain of Ebola a public health emergency ⁠of international concern.

WHO Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus announced on Sunday that there were ⁠more than 900 suspected cases of the outbreak so far, including 101 confirmed cases.
